Description
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery Art Print.
Set against an atmospheric sky, the illustration of Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery - celebrating 140 years in 2025 - features famous paintings housed at the Gallery over the years which have since escaped their gilded frames. Rossetti’s Proserpine stands at the fountain and Waterhouse’s The Lady of Shalott sits on an imagined canal flowing under the iconic Venetian bridge. In the style of Romantic landscape paintings, the design is dominated by sunlight, long shadows and contrast where a clash of ancient and modern architecture line the horizon.
Opened on 28 November 1885 on Chamberlain Square, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has an 800,000-wide collection of international importance spanning fine art, jewellery, ceramics, archaeology, local history and more. Ranging from the 14th - 21st century, the gallery is most famous for its paintings covering the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and includes the world's largest collection of works by Edward Burne-Jones.
