Mural depicting traditional 1850s Victorian shopfront referencing local heritage, celebrating the Vale of Evesham.
A vibrant mural spanning Rik Mayall's television and film career is accented by poignant quotes from the Panglobal Phenomenon. Along with a fancy dress display, the joke shop display presents Droitwich-born Mayall as both the ‘King of Comedy’ and the ‘Joker in the Pack’, with many references to his finest moments. The display celebrates the inaugural Rik Mayall Comedy Festival, launching in summer 2025.
“We are really impressed with the mural that Milan has created in celebration of Rik Mayall. His creativity is unmatched, and he has done an incredible job of cleverly turning Rik’s humour into imaginative products. The first draft design was spot on from the get-go!”
“We’ve got these incredible king cards, I remember him so well, he’d laugh at this. It’s great that we’re celebrating him in this way”
King of Comedy portrait:
Surrounded by 5 inspirational mantras to life presented to an audience during his 2008 graduation speech - equality, freedom, love, opportunity and wisdom - Rik Mayall's regal robes are also adorned with the colours of his graduation robes. Reminiscent of a traditional royal portrait set into coins and stamps, Mayall is crowned as the King of Comedy through a sensitively created image, set in profile like a romanticised Mucha painting. Within the decorated vines sits both the respective flowers of Droitwich and Worcestershire: the butterwort and cowslip. A print of the portrait was signed by festival patron Ben Elton and performing comedians as part of a charity auction.
